Opening Credits: TV Shows.

The AVClub has an interesting list of what they see as the Perfect TV Opening Credits.

Did they miss any?

i was surprised to not see '6 feet under' on the list as, for me, it perfectly reflected the show itself and definetely set the tone for the episode to come. i would also add 'the twilight zone', 'alfred hitchcock presents', and 'pee-wee's playhouse' for the very same reasons.

I have to say HBO does a lot of great opening credits. I think Rome's credits are very good. And for classic credits you can't beat "The Prisoner".

I also quite like "Weeds". It reminds me of Calgary. Also: The Wire. And, much like the shows, the first time I saw both 24 and Lost I was like "WTF? You can seriously just do that?" The first just speeds you along while the second is that bit of information floating out of the black before going askew.

But none of those credits do it for me now as much as certain opening credits from my childhood did back then: "HEY YOU GUYS!!!", "Sunny days...", and of course, Sunday night Disney hour.

I liked all of those and the honorable mentions here are also good choices. But D, I think you're right Sunday night Disney hour was certainly memorable.

But probably the classiest opening TV credits I've seen in a long while is for "The Closer". There aren't any, really. Just a fade to black with a title between moments of the opening teaser. A fantastic set up that usually allowed for real character moments to be explored instead of cut out of the show for time. Loved them!

That's a good list.
I really like the 'Carnivale' credits, too.
As far as Nostalgia I think Greatest American Hero was exciting, and the Brady bunch sticks out for some reason.

the mention of "The Wonderful World of Disney" reminded me of something kind of related.

when i was growing up tWWoD was always on Sunday evening... at 6 or 7 o'clock. my four siblings and i would gather 'round the tv and we were always stuck watching the last minute and a half of "Hymn Sing"... I can still recite the closing theme:

"Good Night... God bless you, God be with you and Guide you..." It's right up there with:

"Overture, Curtains, Lights, this is it the night of nights..."
